Oh what a night...

my sleeping through the night baby has changed his mind... after a few busy weeks of vacationing here & there he has decided that sleeping all night just isn't his thing anymore. if it isn't a 4am poop or an accidental roll over that leaves him flailing like a turtle on it's back, then it is hunger because at a whopping 16 pounds of course you are hungry at night. i really don't mind seeing him in the night actually, but i think my daughter might be getting jealous BECAUSE the highlight of my night was at 4am when my daughter tip toeing into my room & as I lay there feeding Rowen she looked up at me sleepy eyed and said, "mama i miss you"... come on? melt my heart & come cuddle with me!

Orcas Island Camping

We just spent a wonderfully long Labor Day weekend on Orcas Island, camping at Moran State Park with the Latimer Family. We took Lillian camping at the same place two years ago for her first camping trip & now Rowen's first camping trip was there too! Happy Campers! Our kids love camping & we do so much that we just might have to squeeze another camping trip in before Fall... but we will have to replace our air mattress before then because it was like sleeping on an awful water bed.

Our neighbors while camping had a little girl who was 6 six (only child) & really liked Lillian. Here is my favorite conversation with her:

Me:Are you from here?
K: No. I am from America.
Me: Oh! Well this is America. Are you from Washington?
K: No. I am from Seattle.
Me: Oh cool us too!

like e diamond

after bath time i lathered my little ones naked bodies in lotion. lillian climbed up to the table to have a pre-bed snack of yogurt as i dressed the littlest in his jammies. i looked up from the couch after a moment to see my daughter rubbing yogurt all over herself exclaiming, "yogurt lotion!" with a twinkle in her eye that says, "mama I'm brilliant!"..... i laughed and then back to the bath for a quick rinse off.

"like e diamond in da sky" is the new name of the more commonly known song, "twinkle, twinkle little star". my singing two year old's song book of melodious bliss knows nothing of the titles or bounds of how a song should be sung. i love the freedom that two brings... so independent, adventurous and full of wonder! her favorite song currently is "happy birthday" sung to a personal tune & her newly made up song is "butterfly morning", which is one of my personal favorites.

"hey buddy" lillian shouts at her brother as he begins to fuss... the mere sight of her face smashed up in his makes his frown become a smile.

vashon vacay

We spent a wonderful week on Vashon Island as a family of four plus my parents Nana & Pappy. Just a short ferry ride from Seattle & you are far  away... we soaked up the rural islands beach walks, super friendly farmers market, lots of needed naps (nothing beats the sound of the water rolling in & out on the shore), cozy reading chairs, and exhausted the 122 steps down to our water front cabin.

Swing "higher!" Lillian

little ones

So my life and love is no longer wrapped up in just Lillian and so the blog name must change...little ones!I remember thinking when I got pregnant the second time how will I ever love another child as much as I love Lil. To my surprise and with my mothers assurance the love for Rowen came with out an effort- unless you count the 9 months inutero & his birth day.I love my life, love and little ones!

a job with perks

I was out to coffee with two of my best friends & my kiddos. Lillian was playing in the rocks, Rowen slept peacefully on my chest & us girls chatted. It was a beautiful weekday and as we each pondered the moment my friend who was taking the day off from work remarked, "your job has a lot of perks" I smiled knowing that day truly was a perk... me, my two favorite friends and my two kids to coffee and the park.

we were out to dinner the other night with two of our unmarried, no children friends, as the normal dinner chaos ensued... we did our duties to hold a child in one hand and eat in the other- passing them back in forth, parenting our two year old "try this!" "take a bit" "sit on your bottom please" "do you need to go potty" and of course carry on what in our life these days is a normal conversation. Our friends announced that our life was "good birth control"... haha... and before i could feel defensive my husband announced with pride "being a parent is so rewarding"... i carried on smiling because i love my life!

my mom told me that when she had me she use to look in the mirror at herself while holding me & say to her reflection, "I look good with a baby!" Now as i walk in my mothers shoes I feel the bliss of feeling beautiful because the baby in my arms makes me so- oh beautiful baby.
